Working closely with the bereaved families of those killed in the July 7,2005,bombings-the worst terrorist attack in the history of peacetime London-Carmody Groarke designed a permanent memorial to commemorate the victims.Located in Hyde Park,the memorial,s setting on a new park path provides a place for quiet contemplation within one of the largest public places in London.The singular and collective loss inflicted by the bombings has informed the character of the memorial.Each of the 52 stainless-steel cast vertical pillars(or stelae)weighs 850 kg.Each pillar represents a life lost,and their arrangement in an open pattern of 4 interlinked clusters marks the 4 locations of the bombs.
