The latest ffgures from the world stainless association show that, in the ffrst half of 2023, global stainless steel melt shop output reached 28.4 million tonnes – a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%. Chinese steelmakers account for almost two-thirds of the total, producing 17.6 million tonnes. China was also the only region to record an increase in output, with a rise of 8.2%, compared with the previous year’s ffgure.
