'Sea Flyte' - Classic monohull ferry gets refitted for Rottnest

In 1996, Western Australia-based designer Gavin Mair, now head of Global Marine Design, unveiled an aluminium monohull fast ferry concept to be operated by Fremantle-based ferry company Boat Torque Cruises. Building on the success of the recently soldmonohull 'Sea Raider', the same hull form was to be used for this replacement vessel. Measuring 35 metres in length and utilising 970kW Wartsila main engines and Reintjes gearboxes, the new vessel carried 270 passengers, 10 baggage crates and up to 150bicycles.
