The bus image that accompanied a recent report on BBC Breakfast about the nationwide driver shortage was just as alien as a Routemaster in Oxford. I'm sure that while the Confederation of Passenger Transport provided the information that business presenter Nina Warhurst used as she spoke live to camera while Stagecoach and Arriva buses did their stuff in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens, the industry's principal trade association had nothing to do with the accompanying bus graphic. The three-door single-decker bears the hallmarks of something manufactured by Iveco for mainland Europe, even if it is right-hand-drive. Unless this is an early clue to what Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has in mind for the conurbation's franchised Bee Network.
