At a world conference on aquaculture and commercial fishing held recently in Thailand, the attendance of Australians at the conference was very limited - the one Aussie fisherman who was there felt very alone. Commercial fisherman Bill Izard, who hasoperated his prawn trawler out of Cairns for the last 26 years and has held his licence for more than 30 years, says as far as he knows he was the only representative from his country at the global conference. But the lack of interest, at least that shown from the "official" side of the Australian fisheries industry, does not surprise him.
