Methane penalty lives on

BACKERS of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 claim the legislation would put the US on a path to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. An important - and controversial - lever to help achieve that target is a fee on excess oil and gas methane emissions. An element of the failed Build Back Better programme, the methane fee appears to have survived mainly unchanged in the new legislation.
