摘要

Greymouth, on the Westland Bight of New Zealand's South Island, has been an established port for many years. It was also the site of a concerted effort to assist the members of the local West Coast Timber Association by shipping timber through the port and thus reducing the cost of transporting it to New Zealand's east coast. Norfolk Island Shipping Services director Malcolm Reid had been contacted by the Australian Timber Association to see if there was any way to assist the West Coast members faced with restrictions on the cutting of exotic Rimu and Beech timbers, as existing mills were forced to increase production of lower value timbers to remain viable.
