'Tateyama Mara' was born in Japan in March 1980 and was built for a fisheries research institute in Toyama as a multi-purpose fisheries research and officer training vessel. There are many who would say it's impossible to build a successful multi-purpose vessel, but she defied all critics. She was imported into Australia in 1999, completed a couple of short trips and spent most of her life alongside.
