A good thing for us drivers is that we have gone metric, because it makes us think we are going faster than we are. In the particular city that I live near, the press now reports that the average commuter on the roads drives approximately 15 kilometres to the CBD and now takes an average of 45 minutes to do so in peak period traffic, which will be one hour within three years. How they figured that out is beyond me. Anyway, if we take it as gospel, it means that the drivers are presently achieving a miserable 20km an hour soon to be reduced to 15km per hour. Most cars do this between first and second gear with the driver's stress level in top gear.
