YASAT' AND 'GHAGHA-1': OFFSHORE OIL FEELS THE NEED FOR SPEED

Austal's Philippines shipyard has recently delivered a pair of all-aluminium 45-metre crew transfer vessels to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).The vessels will be operated by the Abu Dhabi Petroleum Ports Operating Company, also known as Irshad, on behalf of ADNOC where they will be used to shuttle workers between shore and the offshore oil installations. The arrival of 'Yasat' and 'Ghagha-1' brings the size of the Irshad operated fleet to 39 vessels.The two vessels, 'Yasat' and 'Ghagha-1', are effectively passenger ferries that have been modified for crew transfers. The boats feature overall lengths of 45 metres and beams of 12.3 metres. A shallow draught of 2.2 metres, combined with waterjet propulsion, will be handy for operation around the constantly shifting sandbars of the UAE coast.
