Arataki' — A new pilot boat from Q-West Boat Builders for the Port of Tauranga

Surveyed to operate within the inshore limits of New Zealand's Bay of Plenty, 'Arataki' is the new pilot boat owned by the Port of Tauranga. The vessel was designed by New Zealand firm Bakewell-White Yacht Design and built by Wanganui-based Q-West Boat Builders, whose vessels are frequently featured in Ausmarine and known for their sturdy, professional finish. The pilot boat has an overall length of 16.5 metres (14.3 metres at waterline) on a beam of 5.4 metres with a shallow draught of 1.1 metres. The aluminium boat has a generous deadweight of 20 tonnes and displaces 25.25 tonnes. 'Arataki' is powered by twin Scania DI16 43M engines, with power diverted via Twin Disc reduction gears to drive a pair of Henleys fixed pitch propellers. Auxiliary power is developed by a Kohler generator. The boat has a maximum speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of approximately 26 knots.
