European travel regulations for air passengers—and others—have continued to change at a dizzying speed, with new measures and restrictions introduced in several countries immediately prior to, or during, the holiday period. Despite governments’ efforts, however, the omicron coronavirus variant of the COVID-19 virus has continued to spread rapidly throughout the continent. The European Commission (EC) adopted new rules Dec. 21 relating to the EU Digital COVID Certificate, establishing an acceptance period of nine months (270 days) of vaccination certificates for the purposes of intra-EU travel.
