Basalt fibres were utilised as fibre reinforcement in cement concrete pipes. The authors explored the possibility of basalt fibre as fibre reinforcement in cement concrete pipes cast in the centrifugal casting process. The influence of basalt fibres on the structural and hydraulic performance of plain cement concrete pipes and steel cage reinforced concrete pipes was investigated by standard tests on full-scale 600 mm diameter concrete pipes. In the crushing test, basalt fibre in the concrete pipe, which interconnects, obstructs, and holds the propagation of cracks, prevents secondary cracks. Basalt fibres enhanced the plain concrete pipe's crack and peak load capability but exhibited brittle failures with fibre rupture dominance. Reinforced concrete pipes with basalt fibres, after reaching ultimate load, experienced strain hardening ductile behaviour, which improves the load-carrying capacity with less deformation. Mathematical modelling for the characteristics of Basalt fibre reinforced concrete and the crushing test on the concrete pipe were used to verify the experimental outcomes. In comparison, the test results proved to be at +/- 10% of analytical observation. Basalt fibres as fibre reinforcement gave very encouraging results with the increased Three Edge Bearing Test load of spun cast cement concrete pipes. Also, it enhanced the water tightness by reducing the internal cracks in concrete pipes.
