Timeliness is a truly double-edged sword. Security and Public Health by Simon Rushton was published in 2019, and is so pertinent to the global emergency which was then just about to unfold that, as a public health consultant who has been working full-time on the COVID-19 pandemic since February 2020, I am kicking myself for not having managed to read it before now. The book explores many topics which are highly relevant to our current moment in history, and the insights it provides have aged extremely well in a context where a less comprehensively researched and thought-out book would have been almost immediately rendered obsolete by current events. This is a book that will be useful to anyone working in health protection, and particularly in the area of pandemic planning or response, for many years to come.
