THE NEXT GENERATION OF PREMIUM TVS (ROLLABLE/ foldable) has the potential to create a large business opportunity. Flexible printed OLED TV Mobiles, combined with touch/ camera technology, ubiquitous connectivity through 5G/6G technology, and the integration of loT/healthcare sensors (through the help of AI, big data, and iCloud) will enable a smart way of thinking, living, and working (Fig. 1). TCL believes that this kind of TV Mobile will be a "disruptive game changer" in the display industry. But what does this game-changing technology entail? Requirements include superb image quality, such as an extremely high contrast ratio (>500,000∶1) for high dynamic range, high resolution (8K), wide color gamut (DCI-P3: >100 percent), and true wide viewing angle (△u'v' = 0.02, >+/- 60 degrees), to create no compromises in the user experience. This allows viewers to watch a high-speed moving image (MPRT:~0.1 ms) without motion blurring. Other requirements include a large screen size (>75 inches); design differentiation (to provide the product designer with more freedom to explore foldable/rolla-ble flexible TV and transparent TV); eco-f riendliness (low power consumption [Energy Star Standard] and hazardless materials); and three dimensions (in the future). When considering the market requirements for the next generation of premium TVs, non-emissive-type LCD TV technology will have difficulty meeting some of the demands (Fig. 2), leading to a shift to OLED/ quantum-dot LED (QLED) display technology.
