While the Alpha West mine in the USA has committed to a 12 vehicle mine haul truck fleet powered by LNG, progress is slower locally. Shell's withdrawal from a programme to develop east coast LNG refuelling stations is a blow to broader LNG transport aspirations. AFTER AN 18 month pilot program operating the world's first liquid natural gas powered mine haul trucks, Alpha Coal West, Inc. decided in January 2014 to convert its entire fleet of Caterpillar 793's at the Eagle Butte Mine, near Gillette, Wyoming from diesel to LNG operation.
