Sampling models developed in the past are mainly directed towards the conditions of mineral raw materials. A new sampling model will be presented, which is especially adapted to the specific conditions of contaminated bulk masses and describes the influence of the heterogeneity of the contaminant distribution on the minimum sample mass at a prescribed permissible sampling error. It will be proofed, that the type of contaminant distribution has a determining influence on the minimum sample. The fundamental parameters for the calculation of the minimum sample mass and an estimation of sampling errors, if worked according to present recommendations, will be shown. From them, recommendations for practical sampling contaminated bulk masses will be derived.
