Hazards and Risks of Recreational Water Use: Vectors of International Studies. Effects of Recreation on Ecosystems and Biota

English-language publications on the assessment of hazards and risks in recreation water use are reviewed. The main themes and results of foreign studies into the effect of recreation on the ecosystems and biota of water bodies and their coasts are presented. Information is given about the ideology, methods, content, and characteristics of studies of beach management (coastal planning), hazards of recreational extraction of biota, recreation waste, recreation transport, and hazards for biological diversity on recreation beaches. Trends in the development of conventional methods to be used to study coastal recreation are demonstrated. The analysis of studies in foreign countries suggested conclusions regarding promising ideas and directions for application and development in recreation water use studies in Russia.
