One of the major risks to the Murray-Darling Basin's water resources, and to its social, economic and geographical landscape, is the impact of climate change. The Murray Darling Basin represents 14 per cent of Australia in four States and the ACT. About 40% of the value of the nation's agricultural production is generated there and 70% of the value of Australian irrigation occurs in the region, which has two million residents.
