The benefits of the industry's transformation-for customers, communities, and the nation-are clear, as carbon emissions from the electric power sector are at their lowest level in more than 40 years. At the same time, enhancements to the energy grid are making it more dynamic, more resilient, and more secure. In December, EP sat down with Anderson to gain his perspective on how far the industry has come, the next steps on its journey, and the public policies needed to support the industry's transformation. Remarks have been edited for length and clarity. EP: You are a little more than halfway through your tenure as EEI chairman. What would you say are the industry's leading accomplishments over the past six months? Gerry Anderson (GA): In late 2020, we anticipated that, with a new Administration and a new Congress, there was great potential to move on climate legislation in a way that was fundamental. This year, we have focused on helping to shape the energy provisions within the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, and the bill's passage was a key achievement.
