Did you know that Australian wine producers have access to a unique wine microorganism culture collection housed at the AWRI. Did you know the AWRI can store and manage yeast and bacterial strains, supplied from winemakers across Australia, in the collection free of charge. Culture collections play a vital role in preserving and conserving biodiversity and are an essential part of the infrastructure underpinning life sciences and biotechnology. The AWRI wine microorganism culture collection (AWRI WMCC) currently contains over 1800 wine-associated yeast and bacteria strains. We are continuously expanding the AWRI WMCC as it is a treasure trove of yeast and bacteria strains that will take us into the future of winemaking.
