Enhancing Non-Revenue Water Reduction by Incorporating Service Level Benchmarks and Best Practices

Water scarcity is driven by the way it is used. NRW (Non-Revenue Water) indicates the efficiency of utility performance. Performing water audit makes a utility to monitor its performance and compare with other utilities, which is a process of service level benchmarking. Implementing NRW reduction programs require a large capital investment, which can be borrowed from private funding with assured overall performance. In this background, a case study of the NRW reduction program carried by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Karnataka, India, is evaluated based on standard service level benchmarks. The best practices to be incorporated to obtain good results for similar programs in future have been identified.
