摘要

Estimation of blood glucose is very important for normal and diabetic cases. Fasting blood sugar is measurement after overnight fasting; values above 125 mg/dl indicates diabetes while post prandial sugar is sugar after meal, which is done after 4 h of meals. It has been seen that post prandial sugar levels are always higher compared to fasting but in few cases, fasting levels were found elevated when compared to post prandial cases. There are many reasons linked with this which include increase in glucagon to insulin ratio which results in excess glycogen breakdown and gluconeogenesis because of insulin resistance. Reactive hypoglycemia, person with disturbed sleep, less food intake before giving post prandial sample or taking diabetic medication before giving post prandial sample are some of the important reasons for high post prandial sugar.
