Australian Government considers joining the African Development Bank

The Australian Government has commenced a public consultation process on whether Australia should join the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) in 2013.Submissions were called for by August 14. To facilitate the consultation process AusAID has circulated a consultation paper.The Australian Africa Mining Industry Group (AAMIG) will make a submission and has already circulated a draft to the membership seeking views.The Australian Government has been working with the African Development Bank Group since 2008 when it began to strengthen and broaden Australian linkages with Africa, diplomatically, commercially and through significant growth in Australia's development assistance programme. The Government's consultation paper paints a generally positive picture of the work of the bank.
