As the Californian sun begins to set on the KC-10, Chris Croot spoke to members of the 60th Air Mobility Wing to find out how they're still making a valuable contribution to global operations. After serving the United States Air Force (USAF) for more than 40 years, the venerable McDonnell Douglas KC-10 Extender is flying towards retirement. Despite its pending retirement and the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus now arriving in credible numbers, the Extender is still a valuable tool. Alongside traditional air-refueling taskings, the aircraft was called on to support the airlift of evacuees from Kabul in 2021 and in response to the Ukraine crisis in early 2022.
