Brits love to queue, and it also gives us something else to complain about. When it came to sorting the Elf's gearbox and engine, I wasn't too fussed about a quick turnaround, knowing that the bodyshell wasn't going to be repaired any time soon as it was still in my garage being stripped. I'd organised someone else to tackle the bodywork and paint, once there was space. At the time of writing this, STElf is at Terry Cheverall's workshop in Essex. Terry's metalwork skills have been well documented in Mini World, most recently in our May 2023 issue. I'm excited that there is progress on that front and will bring you an update very soon. In the meantime I'd dropped the 22G1128 gearbox to Peter at P&R Gearboxes, in Surrey. The box is a four-synchro type with remote gear change. At P&R you are greeted with the sight of stacks of gearboxes and other assemblies stripped to their component parts. Peter doesn't specialise specifically in Mini gearboxes but has worked on thousands over the years.
