Tasmania needs new mines

Tasmania's future economic growth is under serious threat unless a number of new projects come online over the next few years, a leading mining advocacy group has warned. The Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Council (TMEC) said the State had a "small but strong" mining industry that was being jeopardised by continual protests from Green groups. Venture Minerals Ltd is one mining company that has had one of its projects in the north-west of Tasmania stymied by environmental protestors.
