For the first time ever, Europe is building a reusable spacecraft, set to be home to cutting-edge science. Over the past 60 years, launching spacecraft into orbit has become almost mundane. In 2020 alone, there were 114 launches, and this number is only likely to increase in the years ahead as new satellite constellations are rolled out. Yet while firing chunks of metal into space may be commonplace, building and flying reusable spacecraft is not.
