Over the last 12 months, Coffey Mining doubled its fleet of landcruiser-mounted Scout 1750 auger rigs in Ghana in response to the West African gold rush. Chris Fredericks, Coffey Mining's African general manager, told Paydirt the demand in that time had been strong enough to justify expanding the fleet of Toyota-mounted auger drill rigs from five to 10. "We couldn't get our rigs into projects fast enough. Since then we've been through the Eurozone meltdown and I guess the investment market is a bit softer, but I see great potential for continuing to provide service with all those rigs in the course of 2013," he said.
