Western Areas Ltd looks to have turned the corner following a tumultuous 2013. The company's half year results paint a picture of recovery for the major nickel player, which posted a net profit after tax of $4.3 million compared to an underlying loss of $700,000 in the final half of 2013. The company also bumped its total earnings before tax to $65 million in the half, improving its margin by 20%, which managing director Dan Lougher put down to a variety of cost cutting measures and healthy production.
