In this period of bleak market outlooks, a bit of confidence, it seems, can do wonders for a company's momentum.At the start of 2012, Blackthorn Resources Ltd's future, while not looking terminal, did appear a little dreary. BHP Billiton Ltd had withdrawn from the company's Mumbwa copper JV project in Zambia and in Burkina Faso, the Sydney-based junior was anxiously awaiting the next move by another major JV partner, Glencore International, on the Perkoa base metals project.Fast-forward to the middle of the year and Blackthorn's is one of the few success stories of 2012. BHP Billiton may have withdrawn from Mumbwa but as the management team led by Scott Lowe insisted from the start, not meeting the worlds biggest miner's requirements did not necessarily mean the death knell for a project.
