Integrated directly observed procedures and clinical examination and procedural skills assessmentThe assessment of clinical examinations and the associated psychomotor skills are an essential component of GP training. Following concerns that the existing mandatory DOPs were no longer fit for purpose, the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) WPBA group undertook a consultation exercise and proposed a new way in which clinical examination skills could be assessed and recorded in the ePortfolio. From December 2014, the two systems will run in parallel to allow the General Medical Council (GMC) to be satisfied the new system works. From August 2015 it is hoped that, following an evaluation of new integrated DOPS, or Clinical Examination and Procedural Skills (CEPS) as the new system will be known, will completely replace DOPS, with the existing DOPS system being removed from the ePortfolio. Trainees completing their training prior to August 2015 need to continue to complete the mandatory DOPs in the usual manner. Existing completed DOPs for trainees completing their training after August 2015 will not be wasted as this will still count as evidence.
