LONGTIME CALIFORNIA TABLE grape grower Columbine Vineyards of Delano, producer of the popular organic 'Holiday' table grapes in California's San Joaquin Valley, ha; become the first sustainably grown certified table grape producer in the U.S. The newcertification represents the significant impacts Columbine Vineyards has made over the past few years, including water conservation — 843 million gallons of saved, a 54 reduction in Styrofoam, and carbon sequestration to the tune of 5,200 metric tons,the equivalent to 1,140 cars off the roads annually.The company, founded in 1926, farms a total of about 4,000 acres of table grapes in Delano and Arvin, roughly a quarter of thai organic. Vincent Sorena, Vice President of Compliance, says they're trying to dispel the inaccuracy held by too many consumers that think sustainability is the exclusive province of small growers.
