Richards Bay level-pegs on coal exports

Judging by its performance at the half-way stage the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) will, at best, this year maintain the level of exports achieved in 2011 but Transnet chief executive Brian Molefe remains adamant exports will rise during the second half of the year.But the trend that is unfolding has been seen before. During the years of the commodity boom Transnet was unable to meet the demand from the coal mines to export coal because of operating inefficiencies and lack of sufficient locomotives and rolling stock.
