The number of casualties in the traffic accidents amounts annually to over one million in Japan. That is, one person is expected to be injured out of one hundred people every year. In the 21st century, the countermeasures of preventing the accidents (the active safety) are more strongly looked for, and further improvements of the countermeasures with the passive safety are also looked for. Integrated cooperation between the active safety and passive safety is needed to improve the real world vehicle safety performance. This paper summarizes the current technologies of the active safety and of passive safety, and demonstrates the effectiveness of their integrated cooperation in consideration of the human impact tolerance.
