MAKING the most of the Queensland sun, Gold Coast-based solar powered LED lighting supplier Orion Solar is making after-dark mine activity a safer operation. Orion's solar powered LED marking lights have been picked up by a number of mines around the country to light minesite roadways, hazards and crossings. Charged during the day, even in cloudy weather, the lights turn on automatically at night, helping to guide drivers and pedestrians through frequently changing site terrain. Orion manager John Holliday told Australia's Mining Monthly that solar lighting had numerous applications in the mining industry. "Its a safety warning light that can be used to show the edge of a road, the edge of an opencut mine... or to illuminate conveyors for example," he said.
