Australia's most prestigious student science awards - the 2009 BHP Billiton Ltd Science Awards - were presented in Melbourne in February by BHP Billiton chairman Don Argus and CSIRO's chief executive Dr Megan Clark. The awards recognise school students who have under taken practical research projects that demonstrate innovative scientific investigation. First prize went to Rosie Watters, from Trinity Anglican School. Her project, submitted by CREST, researched ways to reduce brain injuries in cycle accidents.
