New process designed to replace SiSiC imports

WESTERN Australian-based company Concord Engineering has developed a new process, with assistance from CSIRO, to manufacture an industrial grade ceramic for the mining and other industries~ According to the company, the ceramic material features superior wear and corrosive resistance, and is already achieving cost savings by significantly extending machinery life.The advanced ceramic is made from siliconised silicon carbide (SiSiC) which Concord is manufacturing and marketing as SiCon. Firing silicon and carbon at high temperature within a non-oxygen furnace produces SiCon.
