The prevailing attitude of delegates at the World Diamond Conference was that world markets would not turn their attention to diamond companies until a big, new find was made - something the industry has been waiting a decade for. While the majority of the world's diamond explorers are looking for diamondiferous kimberlites in the central parts of cratonic regions, Blina Diamonds NL's exploration manager Dr Mark Hutchison said the traditional theories on diamond exploration were not the only ones available. "The South African model has been applied successfully to Russia and Canada, but there are theories out there other than just this model," Hutchison said.
