In the United States, basis prices remained unchanged in September. However, tight scrap supply may apply upward pressure in the coming months. A pickup in orders, for deliveries in the first quarter of 2024, is perceived. This is not driven by real demand, although the requirements of the aerospace and defence sectors remain healthy. In South Korea, austenitic stainless steel bar prices declined by KRW300,000 per tonne, in September, amid weak demand from the construction and machinery sectors. In contrast, bar prices in Taiwan recorded moderate increases. Minimal price fluctuations were reported in China, during the past month.
