Gobbling up those food miles

WE depend totally on our food security. And food security, in turn, depends on water security. Food is right at the centre of sustainability management because food production, distribution and trade link to global issues of poverty, equity and potential resource conflict. Quite simply, food is the single most resource-hungry and environmentally demanding aspect of our lives. Of all plant matter produced on the planet (total net primary productivity) about 20% is now dedicated to human use as crops,pasture and timber.
