RELIANCE Industries is poised for a huge boost in gas production from the gas-rich KG-D6 asset offshore India's eastern coast. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani, managing director of the Indian private sector giant, said a joint venture with UK supermajor BP on the KG-D6 asset is set to play an important role in providing more gas. "We are on track to reach 30 million cubic metres per day of gas production in the financial year 2023-24 after commissioning of the MJ field. This will significantly enhance India's energy security in a volatile energy market environment," he said. Reliance in its most recent quarterly results noted that gas production from its MJ gas and condensate development is expected to start in the coming weeks, which would lead to a significant production uptick from the prized asset. "Production from MJ field is on track and is expected to commence during the fourth quarter of the financial year 2022-2023 (January-March)," the company stated.
