Ovivo wants to ramp up the adoption of ceramic membranes in the drinking water and combined sewer overflow markets in North America, after taking control of Danish membrane manufacturer Cembrane earlier this month. The Canadian equipment supplier -which is owned by Germany's SKion Water - has been a licensee and minority stockholder in Cembrane since 2018, and has invested heavily to improve the economic value proposition of the company's flat-sheet ceramic membranes. "The acquisition of Cembrane is an important milestone for us," Ovivo's CEO Marc Barbeau told GWI this month. "It's very central to our strategy, and we see mass volume coming from two applications. We are attacking full speed the drinking water market in North America, and the other market which will be big is the CSO market in the US."
