The number of medium-sized seamless cylinders with a capacity of 30 to 150 ￡ shipped in fiscal 2021 went up 1.3% from the previous year to 102,220 to exceed the 100,000 mark three years in a row.By gas type,shipment of nitrogen cylinders was down 28% year on year.Of these,high-strength steel cylinders for gas-based fire-extinguishing equipment dropped 42.8%,recording a major decline.Since the arrival of Covid-19,construction schedules of buildings to be installed with gas-based fire-extinguishing equipment had been delayed or canceled,so manufacturers of such equipment had sufficient stocks of cylinders and seem to have hesitated to invest in new ones.Cylinders for carbon dioxide were down somewhat at 3.5%,and"others,"which include cylinders for specialty gases and mixed gases,increased 8.2%.
