Manufacturing of float glass may be coming back to Canada, and it's about time. Canadian Premium Sand is looking to build a float glass manufacturing facility in Winnipeg, which would mark the first time Canada had a plant of this kind in more than a decade. The Calgary-based company originally started up as a small gold mining company, but shortly afterwards, CPS turned its attention to a silica sand deposit in the Winnipeg area. The company owns a high purity silica deposit located fairly close to where it is planning to build its float glass manufacturing facility - about 160 kilometres north of Winnipeg in the Wanipigow region near the communities of Seymourville, Hollow Water First Nations and Manigotagan.
