Negative trends and major problems in the current development of rural areas in the regions of the Siberian Federal Okrug are analyzed. The characteristics of an average rural settlement are given. The conditions of the residence and consolidation of the population in rural areas are determined. Trends in the development of rural areas of the Siberian macroregion are proposed: the formation of agglomerations of rural settlements around large cities and clustering; support for small businesses based on agricultural consumer cooperatives; the growth of agritourism and ecovillages to preserve and spread the values of the traditional lifestyle of Siberian peasants; and the rotational method of agricultural production in remote and northern rural areas.
