China’s Yunnan to close outdated silicon plants

Southwest China’s Yunnan province, a key production hub for silicon metal, has published a list of outdated production facilities that will be phased out. A combined 245,000 t/yr of silicon metal capacity compris- ing 29 furnaces with 12,500 kilovolt-ampere (kVa) each, two furnaces of 15,000kVa, a 8,000kVa furnance and a 16,500kva furnace from 20 producers will be afected, accounting for 20pc of Yunnan’s total capacity.
