THE third and final Bucyrus 495HD electric rope shovel has been delivered, constructed and commissioned at the Boddington Gold Mine in Western Australia. Electric rope shovels are something of a rarity in WA. Much of the heavy earth movement on mines there is done by hydraulic excavators - be they in backhoe or shovel configuration. That is largely due to the relatively high cost of electricity in the west when compared to some of their eastern states counterparts.
