AGRAINS Research and Development Corporation-supported soil pathogen survey of central and northern NSW cropping land shows root lesion nematodes (RLN) are widespread. Dr Steven Simpfendorfer, NSW Department of Primary Industries plant pathologist says that the soil-borne fungal pathogens which cause common root rot and Pythium root rot are also widespread - at generally low populations - but their buildup is expected to have been favoured by wet conditions in 2010. "The survey assessed 132 focus paddocks around sowing time in 2010 in 12 agronomy districts (10-12 paddocks per district) from Dubbo to the Queensland border and west to Warren, Walgett and Mungindi," Steven said.
