It is found that, with improvement in the caking properties (determined by plastometric and petrographic methods) and the coking properties of coking batch, the mechanical strength of blast-furnace coke is also improved. The corresponding graphs are plotted, and equations are derived permitting the prediction of coke strength on the basis of laboratory data regarding batch quality. A linear relation is established between the CRI and CSR values of the coke produced. Mathematical formulas permit satisfactory prediction of the CRI and CSR values of laboratory coke on the basis of information regarding the base-acid ratio and basicity index of the coal batch.
